The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a challenging and rewarding journey, and crossing the California-Oregon border on Day 100 was a significant milestone for me and my hiking partner, Emilie. California had been a tough state to conquer, with its desert heat, Sierra mountains, snow, mosquitoes, and burn scars. But we persevered, and the reward was a breathtaking view of Mount Shasta as we entered Oregon. However, the celebration was short-lived when Emilie took a hard fall into a blowdown, requiring a quick first-aid response. Despite this setback, we pressed on, and Oregon felt like a breath of fresh air after the rigors of California. The trail suddenly looked manicured, and we could just walk without the constant struggle of blowdowns and brush. As we celebrated reaching mile 1700, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the journey we had undertaken. In my opinion, the PCT is a test of character and determination, and crossing into Oregon was a testament to our resilience. But the journey is far from over, and we must keep pushing north towards the next challenge.
